Everyone…a poem

everyone
sees
the
world
in
a
different
way

everyone
wants
and
needs
different
things

it’s
good
to
remember
those
things
next
time
we
disagree
with
people

they
aren’t
always
out
to
get
us

they
might
just
see
want
and
need
different
things
than
we
do

but
If
the
differences
are
too
great

walk
away

Compassionately Converging

SoulfulConvergence

“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” – Maya Angelou

♥ ♥ ♥

In my dreams

Humanity doesn’t just bustle by one another

We initiate inspiriting impressions

Sans preoccupation or fear of repudiation

Greeting one another joyfully

Sharing a smile

A funny tale

Or maybe even swapping life stories

Commonalities dissolving differences

Respectful minds OPEN

Listening

Broadening

Approachable hearts expanding

Celebrating varying viewpoints and insightful interpretations

No matter how contrasting

Laughter and tears uniting

Difficult situations drawing us closer

Providing opportunity to stand in each other’s shoes

Appreciating the pain

While boldly rebuffing the destructive “us versus them” mentality

Bridging every gap in our power

Mindful we’re in this together

Spreading kindness rather than antagonism

Compassionately converging

Luggage Lady

pablum

I was bottle fed bigotry

Prejudices were pablum

To be swallowed without question

Did my teething on intolerance

I was fed spoonful after spoonful

of mashed bananas with racism

washed down with hypocrisy

Before I lost my baby teeth

I knew that girls were less than

I was fed a steady diet of hate

and lies

and pride?

I was fed this set of beliefs as a child

My guess is You were fed some hatred too

But we are no longer being Force fed

I’ve changed my diet, have you?

Day 202 In the Pursuit of Love (Friendship)

Colleen

Friendship is a noun. I would like to petition to change this. I am henceforth going to consider friendship a verb and not just any verb — an ACTION verb. Friendship is not a static thing. It changes and change requires action. Friendship requires interacting with another and this requires energy and energy makes it possible for you to DO things. Friendships evolve and evolution is change over time from simple to complex.

Through my action of photography — I would like to share what friendship looks like to me.

Friendship is acknowledging that our friends display on any given occasion — two sides of themselves.

Friendship is having the other’s back when their crazy side comes out and standing your ground when the nasties flare up.

Image3noxlokiImage3cats

Friendship is sharing time and space when you have nothing to say and when you have everything to say.

Friendship is embracing and allowing you and your friend your differences.

Friendships can be competitive or cooperative.

BUT

To me — Friendship is as essential as air, water, or food.

And friendship reflects our own light back to us.

What does friendship mean to you? Is friendship active or passive in your life? My friends show me the truest parts of myself. I hope you are graced with the same truth today.

Love, Colleen

FACES

so many different faces
coming from a myriad of places
to occupy the vast spaces
of this new land.
joyful faces
worn faces
fearful faces
hopeful faces
forsaking ancient histories
weaving new patterns of life
designing the face of the future
creating a yet untold story.

“Welcome Friend! . . . ”

Have you ever shut out
One who was to be your friend,
A Divinely ordained support for you
Dismissed for religion, sex, or color of skin?

We miss so many chances
When chained to notions such as those,
Prejudices lacking legitimacy
Block friends, like stripping petals from a rose.

Gift everyone an open hand,
At least give them a shot,
They need a friend as much as you,
Shall we let them go for naught?

Just as family is defined by love,
Not blood,
Friendship is defined by souls that
Will stand with you against the flood.
